Elizabeth “Betty” Marzluff

A Memorial Mass for Elizabeth P. “Betty” Marzluff, 90, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence.  Inurnment will be later in the U.S. Naval Academy Cemetery in Annapolis, MD.  She died on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence, KS.

She was born on October 6, 1920 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Giovani B. and Margaret Paltani Polli. In 1969, she and her husband moved to Lawrence, KS from Charleston, SC.

Mrs. Marzluff was a graduate of the Ohio State University with a B.S. in education.
She was retired as the Coordinator of Special Education for the Charleston County Schools in Charleston, SC. Earlier in her career, she taught home economics.

In Lawrence, Mrs. Marzluff was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, Phi (Upsilon) Omicron, PEO Sisterhood, Lawrence Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Women’s Guild at Corpus Christi, KU Retirees Club, KU Chapter of University Women’s Club and the Countryside Garden Club.

She was married to Captain Joseph O. Marzluff on July 12, 1944 in Gates Mills, OH.  He survives of the home.
Other survivors include three sons: Dr. Joseph M. (wife, Marcie) Marzluff, of Charleston, SC, Peter (wife, Deborah) Marzluff (USN Retired Rear Admiral), of Washington, D.C., Dr. John M. (wife Coleen) Marzluff, of Seattle, WA, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials in her name to the St. Colletta School for Exceptional Children in Jefferson, WS, or to the charity of the donor’s choice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
