Graveside services for Elmo Lee Shepherd, Jr. 84, Lawrence will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, December 8, 2025, at Lane Cemetery in Lane, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 10-11:30 am on Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS. Elmo died November 22, 2025, in Oskaloosa, Kansas.
Elmo was born on March 10, 1941, in Ottawa, KS, the son of Elmo Lee, Sr. and Charleen Bump Shepherd.
He worked for the University of Kansas for 32 years in the custodial and electric shop. He later drove the bus for Lawrence Public Schools for almost 20 years.
He enjoyed sports baseball, football, basketball and bowling. He coached little league teams and travel bowling teams. He enjoyed being a father.
He married Judith “Judy” Borror on July 13, 1968 in Lawrence, KS. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Barry and Mark Shepherd; four grandsons and two granddaughters, one great grandson and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Shepherd.
The family suggests memorials to LMH Catch a Break Fund and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
