Emma “Ellen” Miller

Funeral Services for Emma “Ellen” Miller, 83, Lawrence, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Ellen passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019 at the Wellsville Retirement Community. Emma “Ellen” Miller was born October 6, 1935 in Winona, Missouri. She moved to Lawrence with her family in the 1940s.

She married Glen Miller in 1954, they shared 44 years of marriage before he died in 1998.

They had two sons, Duane and Doug.

Ellen is survived by son Duane, his wife Margie, son Doug, his wife Kay, grandchildren, Shelby, Derby and Step Granddaughter Samantha.

Ellen was the 5th of 6 children born to Fred and Amanda Sellars. Those preceding her in death; Lorene Roberts, Charles Sellars, Perry “Spud” Sellars, Ruby Webb and Floyd Sellars.

Ellen’s hobbies included: camping, fishing, bowling, bingo, 1 arm bandits, having good times laughing with people and Senior Music tour. She worked as a kid in a strawberry patch, she was asked not to come back because she ate to many.

She was the first woman taxi driver, she was hired by close friends of hers, Ward and Daisy Thompson. Ellen was employed by Independent Laundry, Kansas Color Press, various waitress jobs, Casa de Taco, Willies Café and Hillcrest Bowling.

She became Youth Bowling director at Hillcrest Bowl. She held that position for 15 years.

She also was a book keeper, cleaned parts and delivered lunch at the family business, Glen Miller’s Auto Service.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the Wellsville Retirement Community.

Memorials may be made in her name to LMH-Oncology Department and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
