Esther A. Miller

Family graveside service for Esther A. Miller, 94, Lawrence will be held at a later date. Esther passed away on May 12, 2025, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community in Lawrence.

She was born January 19, 1931, in Linwood, Kansas, the daughter of Harrison and Augusta (Andersen) Montgomery.

Esther graduated from Linwood High School. She retired from Black Hills Energy in December of 1992. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Lawrence. She enjoyed bowling and traveling, she spent many winters in Arizona.

She married Leroy Hadl on August 5, 1950, and he preceded her in death. She later married Richard Miller on June 22, 1978; he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents and son, Jim Hadl; brothers, Norman Montgomery and Harry Montgomery; sister, Opal Rollins.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Dale) Stanwix, her son, Dan Hadl; six grandchildren, Shannon Stanwix, Pat Stanwix, Jimmy Lee Hadl, Jasen Hadl, Kayla Hadl and Dustin Hadl; eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the caring staff of Pioneer Ridge and Ascend Hospice for their compassionate care for Esther and her family.

The family suggests memorials in her name to Ascend Hospice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary 120 w. 13th St. Lawrence, KS 66044.
