Eugene Floyd Lamb

Visitation for Eugene Floyd Lamb, 80, Lawrence, will be held from 1:00 ~ 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. A Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 3, 2022, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence. Eugene passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at LMH Health.

Eugene was born on June 20, 1942, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Everett Donald and Lucille Bernice (Peterson) Lamb. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1960. He was in the Army National Guard from 1964-1969.  He graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha in 1970.

He married Melba Larson on April 10, 1965, in Wakefield, Nebraska. She survives at the home.

He is also survived by his children, Jody Meyer, and Trevor Lamb and daughter-in-law Lisa Lamb, and his grandchildren, Drew Meyer, Tate Meyer, Reece Meyer, Tyler Lamb, Porter Lamb, and Rory Lamb, all of Lawrence.

He is also survived by brother, James and his wife Darlis Lamb of Englewood, Colorado, sisters, Patricia Vogt of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Marcia and her husband Alan Murphy of Elmira, Oregon, and sister-in-law, Janet Lamb of Omaha, Nebraska, and several nieces and nephews.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Frank Rist, brother, Willard Lamb, and brother-in law, Fred Vogt.

Eugene began working for Exxon Chemical Company in July 1972. In 1975, Gene was transferred to Exxon’s polymer’s location in Kingman, Kansas as a business manager. He ultimately became general manager of the Exxon plant in Kingman and a plant in Clearfield, Utah. In 1998, Exxon sold the plants to Polymer Group, Inc. (PGI). Eugene was vice president and general manager for PGI until 2003 when he retired. He loved his job and all his employees. In 2009, Eugene and Melba moved to Lawrence, Kansas to be near their children and grandchildren. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. Although he grew up a Nebraska fan, he came to love watching the Kansas Jayhawks as well as the Lawrence High Chesty Lions, for whom his grandsons played football.
