Frances Justina Benson

Frances Justina Benson died September 14, 2015 at Concordia Retirement Center in Bella Vista, AR.

Frances was born March 13, 1912, in Lawrence, KS to Francis Oscar Benson and Nellie Frye Benson.

She attended the Lawrence schools and the Lawrence Business College. During WWII, she was employed as a secretary at the Sunflower Ordinance Plant in De Soto, KS. In 1946 she was employed by the Continuing Education Department at the University of Kansas, retiring in 1977.

Her retirement years were spent with a number of arts and crafts classes at the Lawrence Senior Center. She also loved spending time in her flower garden. In 1996, she moved to Bella Vista, AR, to be near her brother, Paul and wife, Jean.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Lawrence, and attended the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, while in Arkansas.

Frances was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Paul, and sisters-in-law, Alice Benson Newton and Deloris Jean Benson. She is survived by four nephews, a niece, and a number of cousins.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2015 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence. The family will meet at 10:30 a.m. Friday prior to the graveside service at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the First Christian Church or the Presbyterian Church of Bella Vista, Bella Vista, AR and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
