A Celebration of Life Service for Frances Wetherbee Alexander, “Grammy”, 92, Lawrence will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2014 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel. She died Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Frances was born August 19, 1922 in Stow, MA the daughter of Leon A. and Olive (Stratton) Wetherbee.

She graduated from Worcester State Teachers College with a BA in Elementary Education.

She was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church in Topeka and First United Methodist Church in Lawrence.

She taught elementary school in 1941 in Whitman, MA for two years. She then went to work in New York City, New York for Eastern Airlines. She also worked at the 1st National Bank in Topeka for 17 years until she retired in 1991.

She married Charles Alexander, Sr., November 24, 1960 in Stow, MA. He preceded her in death January 1986.

Survivors include two daughters, Channette Alexander, Lawrence, Wendy Burkett, Eudora; two sons, Charles Alexander, Jr., Lawrence, Christopher W. Alexander and partner Michael Hastings, Buda, TX; six grandchildren, Liam Kirby, Denver, CO, Jordan Burkett, Lawrence, Grady Cain, Eudora, Ari and Evan Hastings, Buda, TX, Ryan Rayzor and significant other, Joy Grant, Spring Hill; two great grandchildren, David and Grace Grant, Spring Hill. Also numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her four sisters, Anna, Pricilla, Elizabeth, Virginia and her twin brother, Jack Wetherbee.

A quiet people person, she loved her books, cooking, knitting, sewing, plants, Royals baseball unless they were playing the Red Sox and KU basketball. She was dedicated to taking care of others and never showed she was upset at life’s circumstances. Her ultimate gift was teaching those around her to take care of others. You didn’t go to her house without being offered food. She even received a commendation for sending cookies to her grandson Ryan’s Marine Corps training unit.

The family suggests memorial contributions in her name to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
