Funeral services for Fred Eugene Cooper II, 76, of Lawrence, Kansas will be held 11 a.m, Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Mustard Seed Church in Lawrence. Burial with military honors will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.
Mr. Cooper died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Select Specialty Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.
He was born October 23, 1933 in Lawrence, Kansas the son of Fred Sr. and Lurue Helen (Suggs) Cooper. He attended Lawrence Public Schools and Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. He was a lifelong resident of Lawrence.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and serving as a paratrooper and ranger in the Korean War. He also worked for the Corps of Engineers.
He was the store manager for the University of Kansas Chemistry Department and retired
from the University after 35 years.
Fred was a member of the Second Christian Church and the Western Star Masonic Lodge # 1, F&AM, both in Lawrence.
He was married to Lavenia Moten on February 24, 1955 in Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Shaqullie and Darrius Cooper and Derricks Newman, all of the home; one brother Gary Cooper and one sister, Donna Morrison both of Lawrence; many nieces, nephews and cousins. A brother, Maurice Cooper preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Monday at Warrren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
