Graveside services for Gale Edgar Pinegar, 82, Lawrence will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence. He died August 18, 2024, at LMH.

Gale was born May 17, 1942, in Welda, Kansas the son of Edgar and Leona (Traw) Pinegar.  He graduated from Peculiar High School, Peculiar, Missouri in 1961.

After a short stint in the Air Force he worked for Cities Service Gas Company in Lawrence, Kansas.  He then joined the Lawrence Police Department in 1968.  He remained with the department until 1972, at which time he resigned to go into his own Cabinet business (Custom Cabinets).  Over the years, Gale created and ran several businesses that included, an armed courier service, Lawrence Security Patrol and Judy’s Junction Storage & Convenience Store.

Gale was married to Nancy Hodges and from this marriage came two sons Terry Gale Pinegar and Rex Edgar Pinegar.

Gale met and married Judith Grammer in March 1978 and with this marriage brought him a daughter, Michelle Grammer Swisher, and another son, Jason DeWayne Grammer, from Judy’s previous marriage.

Gale was an avid airplane enthusiast, coming from a flying family as both his Dad and Mom were pilots.  Gale spent many hours helping his Dad rebuild planes.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating, all of which he was unable to do in the last years of his life.  He loved talking about his experience as a police officer and was an avid NASCAR, Kansas City Chiefs and KU Jayhawk fan.

Gale was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Darrell & Donald, and his son Jason Grammer.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Pinegar, his sons; Terry (Kerrie) Waverly, Ks, Rex (Penny) Lawrence, KS, his daughter Michelle (Shawn) Lawrence, Ks, his sister Beverly Day (Larry) Richfield, MN, his mother-in-law Maxine Graves.  He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gale’s name to FOP – Fraternal Order of Police or First Christian Church and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
