Gary Dean Moore was born on January 24th, 1946 in Fort Scott, KS to Clifford Albert and Bessie Mae Moore (Butler), both now deceased. Gary died surrounded by love and family at the University of Kansas Medical Center on February 19th, 2018 at 12:45 p.m. At 72 years of age, after multiple heart and chest surgeries, and after being in the hospital and rehab for four months, his body was ready to die and his spirit ready to be free in heaven. One last tear in his aorta sent him home to Jesus.
0Gary graduated from Lawrence High School in 1965 and resided in Lawrence, KS. He worked at Zimmerman’s Steel and Craftsman Marble before beginning his career at the Lawrence KMart Distribution Center (1976-2011) from which he retired after 35 years of faithful service. On August 5, 1977, he married his love, Helen Louise Falk, as the result of a blind date set up by mutual friends. He became a member of the Reformed Presbyterian church of Lawrence, KS and also attended Eagle Rock Church with his wife Louise. Gary had a personal relationship with God even from an early age. He tells the story of when he walked into an empty neighborhood church as a child, felt the presence of God, and then accepted God’s gift of salvation. On his own initiative, he then walked with his sister to church on Sundays.
Gary’s siblings include his brother, Richard (deceased) and wife, Nola, sister, Patricia and husband, Martin Hoover, brother, Steven and wife, Robin, and brother, Michael and wife, Roberta. Gary has numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Gary and Louise raised five children including Tonya Mitchell (husband, Joshua), Jennifer Smith (husband, Alex), Jeffery Moore (wife, Kristine), Teia Partin-Jackson (husband, Everett), and Angela Partin. Gary’s many grandchildren include Lori, Ambrosia, Adonnis, Kaidyn (deceased), Alister, Anneliese, Amarie, Stephan, Cleveland (deceased), Tia, Tommy, Everett, Tatyana, Aliyah, Armani, Kenzie, Keller, Alexis, and Aubrey.
Gary was a champion speed skater and bowler, big-winning bingo player, successful landlord, adventuring motorcyclist, and Border Collie breeder. He was a humble, hard-working, loving husband, father, and friend. Gary enjoyed drinking coffee at IHOP and eating a 5-minute microwaved potato while watching the daily news in his living room. He loved walking and playing frisbee with his dogs Kaiah and Apollo, blasting Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Rich Mullins, and making his grandkids smile.
