Mass of Christian Burial for Genevieve Marie “Genny” Hunsinger, 92, Lawrence will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Lawrence, KS. A Rosay will be said at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence with a visitation of to follow until 9:00 p.m. She passed away on March 1, 2026, at LMH.
Genevieve was born July 9, 1933, South of Eudora, KS on the family farm the daughter of Howard and Josephine Seiwald Miller. She grew up on the Grade A Dairy Farm. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1951.
She married George Elroy Hunsinger on November 3, 1956, in Lawrence, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 16, 1987.
Genevieve was a member of St. John Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella. She was also a member of FCE Homemakers, she was a 4-H Leader for many years, a food superintendent for the Douglas County and Vinland Fairs, she enjoyed being a food judge for many county fairs and was instrumental in bringing the homemade ice cream contest to Douglas County and Vinland Fairs. She volunteered for Douglas County Republican Politics and worked the election board for 40 years. She was a delegate for Kansas Farm Bureau. She was instrumental in the 1933 Birthday Club that was a pen pal system through the United States and International, where they held bi-yearly reunions that led them to many states. In her early years she and George enjoyed square dancing. She loved cooking, canning, baking, gardening, birdwatching, board games (she was very competitive), she was an avid KU Basketball fan. She loved her family and enjoyed all the activities and times spent together. Genevieve worked at K-Mart Distribution Center from 1998 until she retired in 1995.
She is survived by her son, George (Cheryl) Hunsinger of Lawrence, grandchildren, Sabrina (Jay) Stickler, Candice Lucero, Lacey (Daniel) Simonson all of Eudora, seven great-grandchildren, Jared (Rachael) Stickler, Jacob Stickler, Tiago Perez-Lucero, Weston, Beckett, Tucker, Scarlett Simonson, sister, Virginia (David) Lenahan, Kingwood, Texas; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Glen and Robert Miller.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Douglas Co. 4-H Foundation and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
