Glenn Dyer

Glenn Dyer, 79, passed away at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas on January 24, 2018. He and his wife have made their home of many years at the Leeward Air Ranch near Ocala, Florida.

Glenn was born September 30, 1938 to parents James Leo and Edna Gaye (Thorne) Dyer on the family farm in Willow Springs Township west of Baldwin City, Kansas where he grew up attending schools at Prairie City and Baldwin. He was active in the Palmyra 4-H Club and the family farm.

At a young age of 17, Glenn enlisted and proudly served his country in the United States Navy for a ten-year tour of duty serving on ships in Norfolk, Jacksonville and Key West. While stationed in Key West, Florida he developed an interest in flying gaining private, commercial and instructor certificates. Following his discharge from the Navy he worked on construction of the Key West desalination plant for Westinghouse Electric Corp. This experience with Westinghouse took him to projects in Kuwait and Iran. He continued his career with Westinghouse and later Siemens Electrical Power Generation as an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer. Following his formal retirement he continued working part-time receiving calls for his skills on power plant maintenance up until the time of his passing. Throughout his adult life he remained passionate for his hobby of flying always owning one or more airplanes that he kept at his home at Leeward Air Ranch near Ocala, Florida.

Glenn married Barbara Edmonds Bryant on June 08, 1973 at the Ives Chapel United Methodist Church in Baldwin and became a wonderful father to her two daughters for 44 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother James Edward “Jimmy” Dyer.

He is survived by his wife Barbara and children, Brenda Pecora and husband Frank of Port St. Lucie FL, Tracy Kurtz of Ocala, FL. four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A brother, Robert Dyer of Centreville, Virginia, two nephews and three nieces that all loved him dearly.

A celebration of life and services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 3rd at Ives Chapel United Methodist Church, 1018 Miami St, Baldwin City, KS. A luncheon will be held at the church following the services where the family will greet friends. A memorial service and burial will take place at a later date in Ocala, Florida.
