Helen L. Torkelson

Helen L. Torkelson, 89, Lawrence passed away on June 22, 2018 at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community. The family will greet friends for a visitation at Warren-McElwain Mortuary on Monday, June 25, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lawrence.

Helen was born June 7, 1929 in Lawrence, Kansas, daughter of Ira and Sylvia (Mason) Ikenberry. She married Selmer A. Torkelson on June 6, 1948 in Baldwin City, Kansas. They were married for 60 years before he preceded her in death on August 2, 2008. She is also preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Helen is survived by her daughter Diane Coester (Dan), two sons Bruce Torkelson (Nancee), Mark Torkelson (Linda), 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 brothers.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations be made to Great Lakes Caring Hospice or Centenary United Methodist Church and may be sent to Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
