Funeral service for Irene Hunter Lane, 73, Topeka will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2016 at St. Luke A.M.E. Church in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. She passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Midland Care Hospice in Topeka.

Irene was born December 28, 1942 in Hollandale, MS the daughter of Doc and Rosie (Washington) Hunter.

She moved to Lawrence in 1967 and lived there until 1987 and then moved to Topeka. She loved cooking, sewing, fishing, gardening, and camping.

She worked as a maid at Virginia Inn, then Lawrence Laundry, Stokely Van Camp, and retired after 23 years from Hallmark Cards Lawrence Production Center.

Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Hunter, Lawrence; five sons, Charles Hunter, Larned, KS, Fred (Lanelle) Hunter, Topeka, Joe Hunter, Lawrence, Marvin (Kimberly) Hunter, Topeka, Melvin (Teronda) Hunter, Tulsa, OK; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Georgia Hunter, Condova, TN, Mattie (Aaron) Turner, Lawrence; brother, Eugene Hunter, Lawrence; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rosie B. Little; and three brothers, James Barfield, Jerry Hunter, and Osbey Hunter.

The family will greet friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Sunday, October 23rd at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Memorials may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
