Private memorial services for Jack C. Roney, 92, Lawrence will be held at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Inurnment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. He passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at his home.
Jack was born April 16, 1922 in Amarillo, TX the son of Michael Robert and Nancy (Cornelius) Roney.
Jack served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.
He received his Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado University.
He moved to Kansas from Longview, Texas in 1955.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. His main hobby was raising Quarter Horses and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, Kansas Quarter Horse Association and a member of the National Cutting Horse Association. Jack also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was an Engineer for the Farmland Industries Nitrogen Fertilizer manufacturing plant in Lawrence.
He married Beatrice “Bea” Steffen November 22, 1957 in Lawrence. She preceded him in death August 11, 1994.
Survivors include two sons, Dean Robertson Roney, Talent, OR, Jack Michael Roney, San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Lauren Roney and Michael Roney, San Antonio and Shilleen Roney, Talent , Oregon; great-grandchildren Nia Kai Jackson, Sebastain Jackson and Bodhi Jackson Talent, Oregon. Niece Pat Benoit and husband Ken, Booth Bay Harbor, Maine.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
