James Edwin Whitworth (1945-2025) & Kathleen Anne Whitworth (neé Bolles) (1947-2025)
James and Kathleen Whitworth (neé Bolles) were married in Roeland Park, Kansas in 1972. Jim wore many hats throughout his life, from his time in US Navy, through years working as a designer and machinist at Kenneth Smith’s Golf Clubs, and his own business training hunting dogs. An avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and conservationist, Jim spent much of his retirement traveling to beautiful places with his beloved wife.
Kathleen was a graduate of Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS and a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. Kathleen was a pioneering career woman with a bachelor’s degree in business and finance and a master’s in Computer Science. She worked for Standard Oil Company and later as a Senior Project Manager for cellular communications at Sprint Telecom. After retirement, Kathleen was active in her local Roeland Park Parks & Recreation committee and was able to advance improvements regarding both safety and accessibility for disabled children. She was active with her local capture/neuter/release society and rescued many cats. She was as passionate about conservation and the protection of animals as Jim. She was especially proud of her gardens, which she called her “happy place.”
Kathleen passed on June 20, 2025 after a sudden, brief illness. Jim saw fit to join her soon after on October 24, 2025. They are survived by their daughter, Katherine, their niece Emily and her partner Ruby, and four cats, Eleanor, Layla, Buddy, and Tux.
