Funeral services for James O. “Joe” Chaney, 70, Linwood, KS, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.  Burial will be in Lawrence, KS.  He died on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.

He was born on February 18, 1941 in Welch, OK, the son of Roy N. & Rosa Williams Chaney. He was a 1959 graduate of Lawrence High School in Lawrence, KS.

Mr. Chaney was a retired electrician and also a farmer/stockman in the Linwood, KS area. He formerly worked for the Lawrence Journal-World, the Bendix Corporation and he retired from the Colgate Palmolive Corporation in 1994.

He was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local #124 in Kansas City, Missouri, and the Linwood Lions Club. He served as a volunteer on the Linwood Sherman Township Fire Department, on the Board of Directors of the Leavenworth County Water District #10 and he was treasurer of the Linwood Development Corporation.

He is survived by four brothers: Marvin (wife, Virginia) Chaney, of Wellsville, KS, Roy (wife, Marilyn) Chaney, of Lawrence, KS, Richard (wife, Kathy) Chaney, of Lawrence, KS, John (wife, Mary) Chaney, of Lawrence, KS, a sister-in-law, Sharon Chaney, of Lawrence, KS, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sharon Louise Chaney and a brother, Donald Chaney.

The family suggests memorials in his name to the American Diabetes Association or to the Linwood Lions Club and may be sent in care of the mortuary.

The family will greet friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the mortuary.
