Memorial Visitation for James “Travis” Burns, 30, Lawrence, will be held from 6:00 ~ 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence, Kansas. Travis passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at his residence.
Travis was born on November 16, 1990 in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of James and Robin (Sparks) Burns.
Travis was an avid reader, an accomplished tuba player, a respected leader in Boy Scouts and Cadet Major in JROTC. He graduated from Killeen High School in Killeen, Texas, was previously a SPC in the US Army Reserves. Travis loved hiking, traveling, cooking, and spending time in the great outdoors with his beloved canine companion, “Baby Guhrl”.
Travis is survived by his parents, brother, Trevor Burns, all of Tonganoxie; grandparents Gail Funk of Lawrence, John & Shirley Sparks of McLouth, Floyd & Kathy Burns of Leesville, SC; and numerous aunts, uncles & cousins.
Travis was preceded in death by his grandfather, Howard Funk, and grandmother, Ann Burns.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome (WPW) or The National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
