Jane Margaret Fechter, 79, Lawrence, KS. Jane passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor, with a loving care team and family present.
Jane was born September 26, 1946, in Beatrice, Nebraska, to Sylvester and Evelyn (Marquardt) Schmidt.
Survivors include her children Lisa Carter, Lawrence KS, Chad (Brooke) Fechter, Olathe KS, and one grandson Cooper Carter. Siblings Steve Schmidt, David (Janell) Schmidt, John (Molly) Schmidt, Janet Richardson, Janelle Harris, Jeanne (Joe) Newton and Lori (Steve) Montgomery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Brenda Fechter and siblings Jimmy Schmidt, Stan Schmidt, Michael Schmidt and Mary Labbe.
Jane obtained her practical nursing license at the age of 50, and it was a career she thoroughly enjoyed for many years. She took great pleasure in hearing stories about her Grandson and visits from family canine companions. She was quick-witted and humorous, even in her final days.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated. A graveside burial service will be announced by the family at a later date.
The family suggests memorials in Jane’s name to Lawrence Presbyterian Manor or St. Croix Hospice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St. Lawrence, KS 66044.
