A Mass of Christian Burial for Janet Kay Jimenez, 74, Lawrence, KS, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence.
Janet was born on December 30, 1951, in Lawrence, KS, the daughter of Roy Vernon Ray and Helen Maxine Winchell. Janet passed away June 9, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family, after a lengthy and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
She married Fidel Jimenez Jr. on September 27, 1967, and he continues at home. Janet was able to stay within their home during her journey with Alzheimer’s as she was cared for by Fidel along with her children and grandchildren. The pledge made by Fidel was fulfilled with unwavering dedication and love. Her family was everything to her, especially her six grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was always involved in all aspects of their lives and loved them so very dearly. Her home was their home. In many instances, it felt as if some of them were actually living with Fidel and her. She did not want it any other way.
She retired from AT&T and spent her retirement shopping at Kohl’s, socializing with her friends and following her beloved KU basketball team with many updates on the team’s success & failures through Facebook posts. She and Fidel were members of the River City Cruisers, a local car club in which you could find them at car shows throughout the region until the disease prevented her from doing so. A favorite of hers was the monthly summer car show at Set’em Up Jacks. As the disease progressed to the end stage, she still never lost her wit and humor and was being ornery up until a week of her passing.
Other Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Miller, (Karl Capps) of Lawrence; son, Brian Jimenez (Kelly) of Lawrence, six grandchildren; Andrew Miller (Melissa), Alexis Miller, Jakeb Jimenez (Eryn), Olivia Jimenez, Austin Miller, Jude Jimenez and one great grandchild, Lainey Miller.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law, Fidel Jimenez Sr. and her mother-in-law, Rosa Jimenez.
The family will greet friends with a visitation from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS.
The family suggests memorials in Janet’s name to The Alzheimer’s Association.
