Janet George

Funeral services for Janet Sue George, 64, Lawrence will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.  She died Thursday, March 21, 2013 at her home.

She was born on December 15, 1948 in Kansas City, MO the daughter of Jim and Anna Mae (Courter) Ellis.  She was preceded in death by her first husband of 17 years, Larry Calahan, her mother, Anna Mae Shaunberg and brother-in-law, Fred Henning.

Janet was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  She particularly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  She also enjoyed tending to her numerous gardens around her home and caring for her two dachshunds.

Before her retirement, Janet worked as a Board Certified Registered Nurse in geriatrics and rehabilitation.

She married James T. George on March 7, 1990 in Lawrence, KS.

Survivors include her husband, Jim, of 23 years; two daughters, Traci Akers and husband, William, Kansas City, MO, Stephanie Wempe, Overland Park, KS; five granddaughters, Lindsey Moszeter, Madeline Gentry, Savannah Gentry, Nichole Gentry, Cassi Mayer; sister, Judy Henning and brother, Robert Ellis.

She will be terribly missed by her friends and family.

The family will greet friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials in her name to Lawrence Humane Society and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
