Janet Sue (Brimmer) Vaughn, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed into Eternal Life September 12, 2026 at her home. Born on January 21, 1947 in Wichita, KS. Her proud parents were the late Edwin and Dorothy Brimmer.
Her Father’s music career caused her at an early age to be involved in church choirs for her entire working life as well as the Madrigal Singers in High School. Janet graduated from Wichita South High School in 1965 and attended Westmar College in Lamar, Iowa where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Deciding to further her education she chose to attend St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City and graduated in 1971 with a Masters Degree in Religious Education.
At St. Paul’s she met and married her spouse Gerald (Jerry) Vaughn and shared 55 years together.
After her spouse graduated from St. Paul’s in 1972, she accompanied him over the next 40 years to the following Church’s: Calhoon U.M.C.M Missouri, St. Marks U.M.C. Effingham Union, Emporia First, Paola U.M.C, Grace U.M.C, Berrytons U.M.C and DeSoto U.M.C.
In 1974 she gave birth to a daughter, Karen Marie Vaughn, and for the next four years became a “Stay at home” Mom.
Once Karen began attending school, Janet went back to work at jobs including being a Paraprofessional and Teacher in Emporia and an Office Assistant for her Sister and Brother in law’s company called Presentation Images.
She was a Curriculum Advisor throughout all the Kansas City and East Conference of the United Methodist Church. Her last position was Accounts Receivable Employee for United Methodist Home Inc. She retired in 2026.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving to mourn her passing are her husband, Gerald (Jerry) of the home, one daughter; Karen Vaughn (Nicholas Studt) and one Granddaughter; Zooey Vaughn. Also surviving are her two Siblings; Judith Ann Woelfel (Joseph) and David Brimmer (Sally). She also shall be missed by several Nieces and Nephews, as well as a host of Friends.
A Celebration of Janet’s Life will be held on September 19th, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Warren-McElwain Mortuary; 120 W 13th St. Lawrence, KS 66044.
