Janice Rae Walters Schofield, 74, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away on May 18, 2025, at Azria Health in Olathe. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Janice was born on June 29, 1950, in Lawrence, the daughter of Thomas and Ruby Jones. A lifelong resident of the area, Janice was known for her hard work, kindness, and deep love for her family. She worked for 15 years at Scotch Fabric Care and also dedicated many years to residential and commercial cleaning. Her work ethic was unmatched, and she brought care and pride to everything she did. What truly brought Janice joy was time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She cherished their visits and never missed a chance to share a laugh, a hug, or a Bingo night at the American Legion or VFW in Lawrence. Her spirit was vibrant, her heart generous, and her love for life was evident in all that she did. Janice was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Russell Edmonds, Clifford Walters; and her siblings, Clyde, David, Hazel, and Max. She is survived by her loving children: daughter Kristen O’Meara and sons Chad Edmonds, Wayne Edmonds, Russ (Tamara) Edmonds, Nick (Renae) Walters, and Dagan (Jaimie) Walters. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Zach Edmonds, Dylan Edmonds, Wyatt Weeks, Riggs Walters, Dawson Walters, Scout Walters, and Posie Walters — along with several other beloved grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her deeply. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Azria Health Olathe for their compassionate care, and to VNA Hospice and Julie from Midland, whose support went above and beyond in Janice’s final months. Memorial contributions may be made to the Azria Health Olathe Activities Fund and sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
