Jennie Lynn James, 57, Lawrence KS passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at LMH Health.
Jennie was born on February 10, 1966, in Lawton, OK. She was the daughter of Samuel James, Jr. and Patricia (Ware) James. Grandparents were Wilson Mauchety and Pearl Pewo Ware (maternal) and Samuel M. Sr. and May Whiteshirt James (paternal).
Survivors include her siblings, LaQuinta James, Samuel James III, William and his wife Teddi James, and Sammay James. Nephews Darrell Johnson and A’ram Johnson, and nieces Leatha Pearl James and Patricia Lynn James, three grandchildren and many beloved family and friends.
She was proceeded in death by both parents and grandparents.
Jennie was an enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes. She was also Choctaw, Kiowa, and Comanche tribes.
Jennie graduated from Riverside Indian School, Anadarko, Oklahoma in 1984 and Haskell Indian Nations University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She also had an Associate Degree from Haskell. She worked at Haskell as an English Teacher, as a Housing Staff, and as part of the Haskell Extension Program. She spent many years in the service industry. Jennie was a published poet and writer. She was passionate about animal rescue and animal rights in general.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 3, 2023 from 12 noon to 3:00pm at the Haskell Light located at 137 Pawnee Avenue in Lawrence, Kansas.
A graveside service will be held on June 24, 2023 at Red Stone Cemetery in Anadarko, Oklahoma.
