Joan P. Stone, 86, Lawrence, KS passed away Monday, December 1, 2025, at her residence in Lawrence, KS.
Joan was born May 12, 1939, in New Haven, CT, the daughter of George and Frances (Chasnoff) Phillips. She received her undergraduate degree from Sarah Lawrence College and her master’s degree from Yale University. Joan was passionate about dance and taught for many years in the Dance Department at the University of Kansas.
Joan married her soulmate Harris Stone in August of 1963 in New Haven, CT. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charles Alan Phillips.
Survivors include her nephew Michael Phillips and her nieces Cindy Phillips, Cathy Phillips and Lynn Phillips Weiskopf.
There are no formal services scheduled at this time.
The family suggests memorials in Joan’s name be made to the KU Endowment Association to benefit the Dance Department. Donations may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary 120 W. 13th St Lawrence, KS 66044.
