Born Judith Margaret Vancil on March 15, 1938, to Harold and Hannabelle Vancil of Kansas City, Mo.
She later had a brother, Rick Vancil (Colorado) and sister, Jan Vancil. Judy grew up in Abilene, Kansas and graduated from Abilene High School in 1956. She attended the University of Kansas from 1956-1958. She married Max Fuller in 1958, and they moved briefly to Hays, Kansas, where she attended Ft. Hays State University until she graduated in 1960. Judy and Max moved back to Lawrence Kansas where Judy was a kindergarten teacher until her daughter, Shelly, was born in 1963. Then, in 1966, their son, Brett, joined the family. She and Max were later divorced and Judy married Bill Shunk in 1977. Bill was the love of her life. They had a wonderful marriage for almost 49 years and created a supportive, loving, blended family, with two daughters and two sons.
Judy worked as a Realtor at Stephens Real Estate for many years and then retired to spend more time with her Grandchildren. She wanted to attend all their activities.
Judy loved socializing and belonged to many organizations. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority, P.E.O, University Women, Small World, University Women, The Judy Club, the “Hays Mafia”, Bridge Group, Alvamar Country Club, and Plymouth Congregational Church.
A Celebration of life will be held at Plymouth Congregational Church where she was a member for over 60 years at a later date.
