Judy (McComas) Schwieterman, age 73, passed away on October 3, 2026 at home in Lawrence, Kansas with her daughter, Nicki, by her side. Judy was born on September 25, 1953 in La Junta, Colorado to Bobbie and June (Nicholson) McComas.

Judy graduated from La Junta High School with the class of 1971 and attended Otero Junior College. She worked at Valley Floral in La Junta during high school then La Junta State Bank, First National Bank in Syracuse, the medical office of Dr. Shashi Sharma, MD and most recently as the office administrator at Hamilton County Health Department where she worked for 29 years.

Judy was a founding member of the Hamilton County Public Foundation and served as president. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. She also enjoyed playing the piano, attending agility classes with her beloved beagle, Buddy, and visiting her daughter, Nicki, every chance she could.

She is survived by her daughter Nicki Kehr and her grand-dog Blaine, her aunt Marie Malden and cousins Bobby Malden, Randy Malden, Chris Malden, Kelley Brehm, Jim McComas, Data Kaye McComas, and Greg McComas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Waunita June and Bobbie Ralph McComas, her brother, Dale McComas, cousin Mike McComas, and most recently her constant companion, Buddy, her 18-year-old beagle.

Judy grew up in La Junta, Colorado. Her final resting place will be in Fairview Cemetery alongside family members. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the charity of the donor’s choice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
