A Mass of Christian Burial for Kathleen Fitzpatrick Haas, 96, a resident of Lawrence, will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence.  Burial will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney, KS.  Kathleen died in Newton, IA on November 3, 2011.

Kathleen was born on May 16, 1915 in Caney, KS the daughter and youngest child of John and Rosa Bowker Fitzpatrick.

After graduating from Caney High School, she traveled a four-state area as a drama and dance instructor and choreographer for a theatrical troupe.

She worked with her husband in the laundry business in Junction City during World War II, and later, for fifteen years in Wichita.  Additional business interests included, cattle ranching and oil production which took the family to Sedan and Independence, KS and Duncan, OK, before returning to Junction City to operate a laundry business.  Upon retirement in the mid 1980’s they moved to Lawrence where, except for a several year period in Bartlesville, OK, Kathleen continued to live until being hospitalized earlier this year.

Kathleen was a Brandon Woods at Alvamar resident and faithful member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence.  She was an accomplished golfer and a former member of the Wichita Crestview, Independence, Junction City and Alvamar Country Clubs.  In Wichita, she served as president of the Blessed Sacrament Parish Altar Society and as president of the Kiwanis Club Auxiliary.  In Independence, she was active in and directed community wide theater performances associated with the Autumn Neewollah celebration.

She married Fritz Haas on November 24, 1934 in Oklahoma City.  She was a devoted wife for sixty-one years.  He preceded her in death October 26, 1995.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Evans, Baldwin City, Rosemary Wilcox, and husband, Chet, Picayune, MS, Kay Wolfe Clements, and husband, Jim, Newton IA; four grandsons, Warren Wilcox, Round Rock, TX, Russell Wilcox, and wife, Nancy, Diamondhead, MS, David Irvin, and wife, Lynn, Baldwin City, Christopher Wilcox, and wife, Mary Ann, Savannah, GA; six great grandchildren, three in Texas and three in Georgia.  She was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Skiff Hospice – Newton, IA or Corpus Christi Catholic School – Lawrence and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
