Kaye Edwards Moeser, 85, died November 13 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital surrounded by family. Born in Lubbock, Texas, Kaye grew up on a ranch in northern New Mexico, where she explored the range as a young girl on a horse named Trigger. She never forgot her adventures on the ranch, whether it was crossing a river in a Jeep, riding out blizzards and a winter with 110 inches of snow, and learning independence at a young age. Her family later moved back to Lubbock, where she graduated from Lubbock High School and Texas Tech University with a degree in secondary education.
Kaye taught in the Austin public schools and later worked at the honors program at the University of Michigan before moving to Lawrence in 1966. While raising her children, she completed graduate coursework at the University of Kansas and taught gifted education at Baldwin, Wellsville and Eudora high schools for almost 20 years before retirement.
Family and friends will miss her independent spirit, her kindness and curiosity, and her fierce loyalty. She was a proud member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, P.E.O. and Ventura.
Kaye is survived by son Chris (Susan); daughter Carter Peckham (Eric); grandchildren Jack and Claire Moeser; and many devoted friends. Kaye will be interred at Lubbock Memorial Cemetery with her parents. A celebration of life will be held in Lawrence at a later date.
