Kenneth Wayne Snyder, 52, passed away September 19 2018 at his home in Lawrence, KS. He was born February 18, 1966 in Eureka, KS. He leaves his son, Michael Dominic Snyder and his ex-wife, Susan Taylor, of Park City, KS. Wife, Carolyn Mae Jones of the home. Parents, Gerald and Joan (Winzer) Snyder of Augusta, KS. Sister, Cynthia Snyder of Topeka. Aunts, uncles, and cousins also mourn the loss. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold and Marie Snyder and Harold and Thelma Winzer.
Ken attended Eureka Grade School, Augusta Garfield Grade School, Augusta Middle School and graduated from Augusta High School in 1985. He graduated from Butler County Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Welding and Art. He graduated from Kansas University receiving a BFA in Sculpture.
He was a Massage Therapist for over ten years in the Lawrence area, graduating from MTTI of Lawrence, specializing in chronic pain and scar tissue work. He helped countless clients.
He excelled in a wide variety of art from charcoal to metal. He has a Grizzly Bear on the Campus BCCC and a sculpture stands on the KU campus which he was a major builder of. He enjoyed teaching blacksmithing and archery, and making Damascus steel knives, chainmail, and armor.
Ken was loved by many family and friends. Carolyn always said “he was the sweetest man she ever met, so she married him.” When called upon by his friends, he was always there to help. He was referred to as the “Gentle Giant” as he was 6’5” or “The Wookie”.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be set up for his son, Michael Dominic Snyder at the White Eagle Credit Union, 2830 Ohio Street, Augusta, KS 67010.
