Lavenia Katie Cooper was born in Ottawa KS on 10/8/1937, and she passed away on 8/24/2021 at Medicalodges in Eudora, KS. Lavenia was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Eugene Cooper, veteran of the Korean War who passed away on 2/23/2010. Lavenia and Fred were married on 2/24/1955. Lavenia was also preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Tessie Moten of Ottawa KS, her brothers John Wesley Derricks of Tulsa, OK, Hobart Moten, Clyde Moten Jr., and Willis Moten, and her sister Nancy (Moten) Reed of Lawrence KS.

Lavenia is survived by her three adopted sons, Derrick, Shaquille, and Derrius Cooper and her brother, William Gilbert Moten. Lavenia is also survived by her nephews, Paul A. Reed, Jeffery and Genarro Moten, Gil and Justin Moten, Tony and Kenneth Moten; and her nieces Annetta Moten, Candra Simac, Danya Moten, and Jasmine, Brianna and Arianne Moten. Lavenia is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Donna Morrison and Candace Moten.

Lavenia worked as a cook for the University of Kansas and the Visiting Nurses Association in Lawrence for many years. She also worked as a Security Guard at a University of Kansas museum. Lavenia enjoyed cooking holiday dinners for her family. Lavenia was a very caring person and supported numerous charities for those in need. Lavenia and her husband had a large collection of religious books and bibles that were donated to religious organizations. Lavenia was a member of the Second Christian Church in Lawrence, until it closed, then became a member of the Calvary Church of God, 646 Alabama St. Lawrence KS. Memorials can be made in her name to the Calvary Church of God in the care of Warren McElwain Mortuary.

Graveside services and burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence, KS on 8/31/21 2:00 p.m. A reception will be held following services at the Calvary Church of God.
