Funeral service for Louezelle Smith, 86, Lawrence will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.   Private burial will follow.  She died on Friday, September 4, 2009, at her home.She was born on March 19, 1923, in Alma, Arkansas, the daughter of James W. and Lula (Miller) Wise.

She worked for the Reuter Organ Company as an organ cabinet handworker from 1941 until she retired in 1988.  Mrs. Smith was a long time member of the First Nazarene Church and later of later she was a member of the Clinton Parkway Assembly of God Church.

She married Lovelle Smith on October 1, 1941.  He preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Gale Duersch, Lawrence; one sister Grace Meuffels, Lawrence; four grandchildren, Nicki Hicks, Oskaloosa, Robert Garner, William McCain and Eugena Madden all of Lawrence, and eight great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by five brothers, James Sherman, Victor Eugene, Herschell Lee, William Audrey and Admal Dewey.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care or the American Cancer Society and sent in care of the mortuary.
