Mass of Christian Burial for Lucila G. Davalos, 80, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Lawrence. Burial will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, KS. She died Thursday, August 5, 2010 at home.
Mrs. Davalos was born April 17, 1930 in Laredo, TX, the daughter of Roberto and Eva Garza.
She attended Holding Institute High School in Laredo, TX. She moved to Kansas City, MO from Anahuac, Mexico in 1962 and then moved to Overland Park, KS in 1969 and to Lawrence, KS where she has lived since 2006. She was a seamstress in the garment industry where she worked in Kansas City MO. Then at Lee Wards as a window display artist for 20 years. Later she worked at Wangs wholesale, then as a store as a sample lady. She was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church and previously attended Queen of Holy Rosary in Overland Park from 1969 – 2006. Other memberships included Forever Young, Kansas State Extension and she volunteered at voting time as a poll worker.
She married Fermin Davalos on July 1, 1956 in Anahuac Nuevo Leon, Mexico. He preceded her in death April 11, 1989.
Survivors include two sons, Eduardo “Eddie” Davalos and wife, Diane of Lawrence and Fermin Davalos and wife, Janice Budai of Sherman Oak, CA; two grandchildren, Jeremy and Jordan.
The family suggests memorials to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
