Funeral services for lifelong Lawrencian, Lucille Vann, 97, Lawrence will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2014 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. She passed away on, Thursday, February 6, 2014.
She was born April 9, 1916 in Lawrence, Kansas the daughter of Charles and Rhoda (Simpson) Georgie.
She was united in marriage to Darel Vann on May 7, 1938 in Reno, KS. He preceded her in death June 17, 1977. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Elizabeth Fields, Vinabel Cardenas and Charlene Tanoda; and two brothers, Edward Georgie and Daniel Georgie Sr.
Lucille held numerous positions in her church for many years. She enjoyed life and having fun with family and friends.
Lucille enjoyed collecting antiques and Americana memorabilia. She started making scrapbooks in the 1940’s when her husband was away in WWII and continued making them throughout her life.
Never having children of their own, Lucille and Darel’s home became a central gathering spot for family and friends. Nieces and nephews remember Aunt Lucy’s home as the “vacation palace”.
Lucille is lovingly remembered by her nephews, Daniel Georgie Jr. (Lawrence), Manuel Cardenas Jr. (Pep) /Cheryl (Colorado) Charles Georgie (California) Shawn Georgie/Jennifer (Lawrence), Trent Georgie/Wendi (Lawrence), and nieces, Theresa Patrick/Kenny and Vanita Douglas both of (California), Judy Georgie (Lawrence) and a host of great nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will greet friends from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
The family suggests memorials in her name to the Lucille Van Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
