Funeral services for Lydia L. Coleman, 71, Lawrence, KS, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at Ninth Street Baptist Church in Lawrence, KS. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence. Pastors Delmar White and William Dulin will be the officiants. She died in her home Wednesday, December 14, 2011.
She was born on January 3, 1940 in Ottawa, KS, the daughter of Russell and Vera McNeair Logan.
Mrs. Coleman grew up in Lawrence and was a graduate of Lawrence High School.
She was a homemaker and had also been a substitute school teacher. She also worked for a time on the staff at the Douglas County Council on Aging.
Mrs. Coleman was a member of the Ninth Street Baptist Church and a Tai Chi Group.
She was married to Paul C. Coleman. He preceded her in death on November 1, 2008.
Survivors include two daughters, Talaine Coleman Martin, of Lawrence, Sonya Johnson, of Geneva, IL, two sons, Christopher Coleman, of Overland Park, KS, Robert Coleman, of Lawrence, four sisters, Cynthia Sims, of Dallas, TX, Rochelle Nelson, of Lexington, KY, Donna Logan, of Lawrence, KS, Darla Lake, of Addison, TX, fifteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, a grandson, and a brother.
The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family suggests memorials in her name to the charity of the donor’s choice and may be sent to the mortuary.
