A Celebration of Life for Margaret Medlar Marvin, 95, Lawrence, will be Saturday, March 20,2010 at 1:30 pm at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.  Inurnment will be in Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, Nebraska at a later date.   Mrs. Marvin died Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Margaret was born March 21, 1914 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of Arthur W. and Lucy R.  (Fiske)  Medlar.

She graduated in 1935 with a BA degree from the University of Chicago.  Before becoming a full-time homemaker, Margaret was employed as a social worker in Nebraska and at settlement houses in Chicago, Illinois and Providence, Rhode Island.

Margaret enjoyed reading, playing the organ, making enamel-on-copper pieces and teaching the craft to others, attending plays and concerts, and spending time with family and friends. She was the keeper of family stories and mementos.  She traveled the world, visiting North America, Europe Asia and even the Arctic Circle. Margaret had a fine mind and a wonderful sense of humor.

She married Burton W. Marvin on January 15, 1938 in Lincoln, NE.  He preceded her in death on  March 8, 1979.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Louise and a sister, Faith Logan.

She is survived by: a daughter, Anne Marvin and husband Michael Caron, Lawrence; and two  sons, Charles and wife Betsy Wilson Marvin, Atlanta, GA, and Robert and wife Patricia Marvin, Lawrence and ten grandchildren.

Memorials in her name may be given to the First Presbyterian Church or to ProLiteracy and sent in care of the mortuary.
