Margie Catherine Boston Stoecker, died on February 8, 2015. She had lived in Lawrence, KS since 2009. Funeral services will be held at the Oakley United Methodist Church at 1 pm on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, with burial to follow at the Oakley City Cemetery.
Margie was born in Stratton, NE on October 31, 1924, the daughter of Floyd and Leola Rooney Boston, and moved to the Oakley area in her first year. She was the oldest of four children, preceded in death by brothers Floyd & Duane Boston, with a surviving sister Barbara Boston Stramel of Carthage, MO. As the oldest she was a big help on the farm and in the garden which also built a strong desire to expand her education for a role in business.
After graduation from Oakley High School, she attended Brown Mackie Business School in Salina. She began her banking career in 1944 and had many positions rising to the first female bank officer, Vice President, at the Farmers State Bank of Oakley, KS. until she retired in 1986. She enjoyed the Bank and the opportunity to be involved in a local Main Street business. Always kind and thoughtful of others, her passion for doing business in Oakley was evident by her actions. A life-long avid reader, she could be found enjoying a book in her free time. As a mother and grandmother she was very supportive and always ready for our visits with wonderful food and a freezer full of sweets.
She married her soulmate, Vernon L. Stoecker on January 29, 1946 in Oakley. Their choice of Kansas Day for their wedding was an example of their love for Western Kansas. They enjoyed going to dances with their many friends. In 1976 she and Vernon moved from the farm to Oakley where they enjoyed many neighbors, card parties and school sporting events. He preceded her in death July 19, 2014. Margie was a longtime member of the Oakley United Methodist Church
