Graveside services for Marguerite L. Johnson, 90, formerly of Lawrence, KS, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.  She died on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Holiday Resort Nursing Facility in Emporia, KS.

She was born on June 30, 1920 in Lawrence, KS, the daughter of William H. & Florence Flory Elston.

Mrs. Johnson was the former head cook at the Woodlawn Elementary School in Lawrence from 1964 until her retirement due to health concerns.  She was the former President of the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and served as chair of various services and volunteered in others.  She also managed the baby/child car seat program through the LMH Auxiliary.

She also worked in door-to-door school censuses in North Lawrence, worked on election boards, held office and was active in the North Lawrence Improvement Association and served on the Community Development Board as a representative for North Lawrence.

She was a Life Member of PTA and was a member of the Low Vision Support Group in Lawrence and attended the Low Vision Support Group when it began in Emporia in 2006.  She was a member of the Republican Women and was active in local Lawrence politics, supporting many local and state Republican candidates. She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Emporia, KS

She was married to Fredrick E. Johnson on March 27, 1937 in Lawrence, KS.  He preceded her in death on August 31, 2001.

Survivors include three daughters; Marie Harding, of Emporia, KS, Sally Barnett, of Lawrence, KS, Denise Hahnstadt, of Missoula. MT, three grandchildren, David Harding, Michelle Harding, Grayson Hahnstadt, and two great grandchildren, Allison Harding and Adam Harding. She was preceded in death by a son, Frederick E. Johnson on November 9, 2010.

The family suggests memorials in her name to the Kansas Audio Reader Network or to the First Christian Church of Emporia, KS and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
