Marija Dodik, 82, of Bonner Springs, KS passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 24, 2021 with the love of her family surrounding her. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Lenexa, KS.
Marija was born on December 11, 1938 in Plesmo, Yugoslavia. She was the youngest of three children to the late Petar and Ana (Milasinović) Škrljac.
In 1966, Marija married her husband, Vojin Dodik, in Zagreb, Yugoslavia. Three years later, they immigrated to the United States. Marija’s greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a talented seamstress and retired early to care for her grandchildren.
Marija will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Vojin; daughters, Melanie and Nancy; grandchildren, Alexa, Ashlyn, and Camryn; her brother, Mike (Kathy) Škrljac; as well as extended family members and friends. Marija was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Tomo Škrljac (Nada).
Marija’s family is grateful for the compassionate care provided by Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s oncology team and the hospice caregivers from Douglas County VNA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to LMH Health Cancer Center in memory of Marija and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
