No formal services for Marilyn Sue (Hunter) Tilghman, 92, Lawrence, will be held.  Marilyn passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023, at LMH Health.

Marilyn Sue Hunter was born in Harper, Texas.

She attended public schools in Chicago, Illinois, and in San Antonio and Bandera, Texas.  She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Texas State College for Women and a Master of Arts degree from Kansas State University.

She and Benjamin Ross Tilghman were married in 1952.  After they married, they lived in St. Louis, Missouri; Seattle, Washington; Oregon; Gunnison, Colorado; Laramie, Wyoming; and Manhattan, Kansas.  They moved to Lawrence, Kansas in October 1997.

She was interested in the arts, especially in art history, ceramics history, and music.  In Manhattan, KS she was a member of the League of Women Voters, a docent at the Beach Museum of Art, and one of the first docents at the Konza Prairie Biological Station.  In Lawrence, she took a special interest in the Brandon Woods Townhouse Association.  Marilyn was a member of Friends in Council and the University of Kansas Endacott Society.

Survivors include her son, Ross and his wife, Heidi Tilghman; daughter, Carla Tilghman and her husband, Larry Brow, and three grandchildren, Helen Tilghman, Nan Tilghman, and husband, Josh Blaisdell and Kate Marilyn Tilghman.

Memorial contributions may be made in Marilyn’s name to KPR and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
