A Memorial Service for Martha Carroll Fairchild is set for 10:00 am, Friday, March 27, 2026, at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, Lawrence, KS. Our precious Martha “Marty” Carroll Terry Fairchild, 76, of Lawrence, KS, went to higher on March 17, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on March 1, 1950, at Fort Leavenworth, KS. Her parents were Brigadier General James Kyle Terry and Wilma Pebbles Terry. Being an “army brat,” she grew up in many different places, including Fort Leavenworth, KS, Norfolk, VA, Carlyle, PA, Alexandria, VA, Ft. Belvoir, VA, Gelnhausen, Germany, and Hawaii.
Her mom always made every house they lived in feel like home.
She received her B.A. in history from Drury College in 1972 and her Masters in nursing from the University of Tennessee in 1991. She worked at Children’s Mercy Hospital and Lawrence Memorial Hospital, in many different roles, retiring from Children’s Mercy in 2015.
Martha married Robert Fairchild on March 20, 1993, in Knoxville, TN, and he survives at home.
Martha is also survived by her children, Chad (Donna) Ellis, Jared (Beth) Ellis, Chris (Seana) Fairchild, Matthew (Natalia) Fairchild, Andrew (Sarah) Fairchild, sister, Susan Terry, and eight grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, and daughter, Carrie Elizabeth Ellis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Martha’s name may be made to St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church or The University of Tennessee Nursing School.
