Martin Fred Wollenberg

Martin Fred Wollenberg, 94, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026. He was born in Welborn, Kansas on October 13, 1931, to Martin John and Mary Elise Wollenberg.

He graduated from Washington High School in 1950. He served four years in the Navy during the Korean War. Martin achieved the rank of Engineman First Class.

Martin worked as a journeyman machinist for Union Pacific Railroad, Brunson Instrument, Bendix Corp, TWA, Robinson Service Co. and UPS retiring in 1999.

He was a member of Prairie Baptist Church in Prairie Village, KS, where he served on the Board of Building and Grounds. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 370, Overland Park, KS.

He married his wife, Carol on June 7, 1958, at the Maywood Baptist Church in Independence, MO. She survives.

Other survivors include his wife, Carol, one daughter, Dana Lynn Palermo (Michael), his two sons, Philip Owen Wollenberg and David Martin Wollenberg (Susan) and two grandchildren, Nathan Michael Palermo and Nicholas Andrew Palermo (Marlee), his four great granddaughters, Mila, Macklyn, Carsyn and Camryn Palermo.

Martin was preceded by his parents and two sisters, Virginia Ruth O’Conner and Myrtle Thoele.

Martin took special pride in his family, his friends, his extensive and one-of-a-kind workshop, and his vacation home on Table Rock Lake.

The family wishes to thank Luminos Hospice and the staff at Brookdale Shawnee for their compassionate care over his last few months. He will be afforded green burial at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence under the direction of Warren-McElwain Mortuary. A celebration of life will be held in October.
