No formal services are planned for Mary Anne E. (Lechtenberg) Wilcox, 87, Lawrence, KS. She passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Pioneer Ridge Rapid Recovery.

Mary Anne was born April 12, 1931 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Andrew and Harriet (Knipscher) Lechtenberg.

She was a member of St. John’s Parish of Lawrence, KS. Mary Anne was very honored to have taught catechism class for grade school children, including her own, for many years. She was a Girl Scout leader and loved adventure. There was never a day without a smile or laughter in Mary Anne’s life. Mary Anne loved to spend time near or in the water having lived on both coasts and the Gulf. Mary Anne enjoyed taking her kids to Sandy Point Beach on the Chesapeak Bay. As an avid lifelong golfer, she excelled until just a few weeks prior to her passing. She also enjoyed playing cards most recently with the Welcome Club Bridge Group.
She married James Wilcox and Harold Schleicher, both preceded her in death. Survivors include her children, Matthew Wilcox (Monette), Greybull, WY, Andrew Wilcox, Fairfax, VA, Wendimere Wilcox, Colorado Springs, CO, Karne Stemper (Terry), Upper Marlboro, MD; siblings, Daniel Lechtenberg, James Lechtenberg (who preceded her in death) Martha Boutross, Kansas City, MO, Michael Lechtenberg (Patricia), Lawrence, Mark Lechtenberg (Shirly), Claremore, OK. Grandchildren, Toyon, Claire, Hanna, Cole, Drew, Evan, Doug, and Casey; She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren.

Mernie, as many fondly referred to her as, was a generous, loving sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt and godmother.

Memorial Contributions may be made in her name to the Arthritis Foundation or to a charity of donor’s choice and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
