Mary Louise Evans Holcomb, 92, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away on May 10, 2026, at her home. Mary Lou was born on February 17, 1934, in Caldwell, KS. She was raised by her parents, Beryl J and Verna Evans, near Corbin, KS. She attended Corbin School through 8th grade, then attended and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1953. She attended Southwestern College in Winfield, KS, graduating in 1956 with a degree in education.
Mary Lou married Donald Dean Holcomb on July 30th, 1955. They have 4 children, LaDonna Louise (Roger) Curry, Marcia Renee Martin, Keith Evans (Patti) Holcomb, and Gregg Eugene (Cheryl) Holcomb
She worked as an Elementary School Teacher at Wide Awake and Lincoln Elementary in Liberal, KS. Her favorite grade level to teach was 2nd grade.
Mary Lou settled in Lawrence, KS, in 1994. She enjoyed volunteering at First Church UMC and for 25 years at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed playing board games, canasta, and Mexican train with family and her many friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Verna Evans, father, Beryl Evans, 2 sisters, Elaine Clark, Dorothy Cooper, and her brother-in-law, Larry Clark.
She is survived by her four children, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, her brother-in-law, Wilt Cooper, and several nieces and nephews.
Private burial services will be held at a later date.
