Marilyn “Mary” (Sommer) Ledom

Mass of Christian Burial for Marilyn “Mary” Marie (Sommer) Ledom, 78, of Lawrence will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Mary passed away on Monday, June 8, 2015 at her home.

Mary was born on April 24, 1937 in Lawrence, Kansas the daughter of Albert Francis and Charlotte Isabell (Hadl) Sommer.

She was a homemaker and housewife. Mary was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She was involved in Serra Club, and was the lead for the church funeral dinner committee. She also served for L.I.N.K. Mary enjoyed being with her classmates from the Lawrence High School Class of 1955. She enjoyed spending her time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She married Charles “Chuck” E. Ledom on June 26, 1957 in Lawrence. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include her eight children, Rebecca (Tim) Allen, Grand Lake, Oklahoma, Mark (Lisa) Ledom, Prairie Village, Susan Timper, Lenexa, Teresa (Paul) Reddick, Overland Park, Greg (Lynne) Ledom, Olathe, Kathy Lisbon, Prairie Village, John (Karen) Ledom, Lawrence, Joshua (Melissa) Ledom, Burlingame, three brothers and one sister, Marvin (Carolyn) Sommer, Art (Verma) Sommer, Karon (Gary) Kennedy, Joe Sommer; 25 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and one on the way.

A parish rosary will be said at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2015 with a visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to Visiting Nurses and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
