Mary Corcoran

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary (Mellott) Corcoran, 83, Lawrence will be held 9:45 a.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence.  Interment will follow at Corinith Cemetery in Prairie Village, KS.  She died December 26, 2009, at her home.

She was born on November 3, 1926, in Kansas City, MO.  She was the daughter of Federal Judge Arthur and Florence Hyatt Mellott.

She graduated from Fairfax College in Waynesboro, Virginia in 1944.  She attended the University of Kansas.  She was a Sorority and Fraternity housemother for Chi Omega for nine years and Sigma Nu for eight years.

She married Judge George W. Corcoran on January 6, 1945.  He survives of the home.  They would have celebrated their 65th Wedding anniversary on January 6, 2010.

Other survivors include two daughters, Laurie Ann Corcoran, Rohnert Park, CA, Mary P. McCracken, Lawrence; one son, George Kevin Corcoran, Overland Park; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
