Mary Rice

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Katherine (Holtzman) Rice, DeSoto, 86, Olathe will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Eudora.  Interment will follow at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery.  She died December 1, 2009 at Olathe Medical Center.

She was born on April 4, 1923 in Kansas City, MO the daughter of Jerome E. and Gertrude P. (Kelly) Holtzman.

She worked in quality control as a lab technician for Hercules, Inc.  She worked as a precinct official on the Johnson County Election Board.  She also was a tax preparer for H & R Block until retirement in 1996.

She married Harry LeRoy Rice on December 3, 1943 in Savannah, Georgia. He proceeded her in death on June 15, 1993.

Survivors include: five daughters, Vicki Hall, and husband, Danny, DeSoto, KS, Roni Fortner, Claremore, Oklahoma; Kathy Rice, San Antonio, Texas, Ginger Ponton, and husband, Mike, Lansing, Kansas, Donna Rice, DeSoto, KS; three sons, Joseph Rice, and wife, Cindy, Midland, Texas, Kevin Rice, and wife, Sue, Lawrence, Kansas and Michael Rice, Omaha, Nebraska; twelve grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.  She was proceeded in death by one sister and one brother.

A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. followed by a visitation until 8 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2009 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary – Eudora Chapel.
