Maxine Hougland

Funeral service for Maxine Pauline Hougland, 84, Perry will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2010 at First Southern Baptist Church in Lawrence.  Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.  She died January 17, 2010 at her home.

She was born on January 1, 1926 in Fort Scott, Kansas the daughter of Charles Albert and Nellie Yoma Hays Moore.

She attended schools in the rural Fort Scott area.  She was a homemaker.  She was an active member of First Southern Baptist Church in Lawrence. Maxine received the Wallace Galluzzi Volunteer of the Year Award in 1998.  She was nominated by the Social Service League where she had volunteered for over 10 years.  She enjoyed making quilts.  She enjoyed genealogy and was a former past member of the Douglas County Genealogical Society.  She volunteered to serve LINK meals.

She married Sherman Fredrick Hougland on June 3, 1945 in Lawrence.  He preceded her in death on October 14, 1992.

Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Ann Strunk, and husband, Max, Perry; two sons, David Ray, Lawrence, Fredrick Gene, Skiatook, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Cheryl Hougland, Christopher Hougland, Candice Densmore, Suzanne Watson, Crystal Helm; and five great grand children.  She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and three sisters.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions in her name to the First Southern Baptist Church and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
