Melvin Charles Lisher, Sr.

Memorial services for Melvin Charles Lisher, Sr. 81, Lawrence, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 205, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Military burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Lisher died January 10, 2015 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born December 11, 1933, near Clifton, KS, the son of Lewis Jackson and Jessie Evelyn Press Lisher.

He was given an honorary diploma from Lawrence High School in 2002 for the class of 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from October 1950 through October 1953 during the Korean War. He received a Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars, and a United Nations Medal, occupation of Japan medal, good conduct medal, plus two other Korean Service Medals.

He was self-employed as a residential and commercial electrician and retired after forty years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a life member and past commander of Dorsey-Liberty Post #14 – American Legion, life member of the Alford-Clark Post 852 VFW, member of the First Calvary Division Association, the Korean War Veterans Association.

He married Rebecca Ann Boeck on February 14, 1954. They shared sixty wonderful years together. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Mel, Jr. and wife, Charlene, Bob, and wife, Diana; five grandchildren, Chad and wife, Mandy, Jayme and husband, Blake, Carl and wife Jordan, Brett and wife, Darci, and Michael and friend, Melissa; one brother, Raeburn, and wife, Jill; and four great-grandchildren, ElliAnna, Reed, Brynn, and Pierce, all of Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

He was a dedicated family man who never missed a single baseball or football game for any of his sons or grandchildren. He became Free State High School’s biggest fan/coach.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Dorsey-Liberty Post #14 American Legion, Alford Clark Post 852 VFW, or Trinity Lutheran Church and mailed to the mortuary.
