Melynn McGrew, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend to many, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025, in Baldwin City, Kansas. She was 85.
Born in El Dorado, Arkansas, on November 30, 1939, to Woodroe and Sybil Hardage, Melynn grew up with a warm spirit and a love for people that carried throughout her life. She later made Lawrence, Kansas her home, where she built a rewarding career in real estate. For over 20 years, she more than just a realtor—she was a trusted advisor and friend to countless families, known for her integrity, kindness, and ability to make everyone feel welcome.
Melynn’s greatest joy, however, was her family. She was a devoted mother to her son, Doug Brenn and his wife Nancy, and her daughter Lori Lewallen and her husband Randy. She especially delighted in being “Grandma” to her beloved grandchildren: Kaitlan Fishburn and her husband Cory, along with their two children Brantley and Jaxson; Tyler Brenn and his wife Paris, with their two children Palmer and Banks; and Scott Brenn. Nothing made her smile more than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought endless joy and laughter to her life.
She is also survived by her sister, Linda Miller; her brother, Darrell Hardage and his wife Connie, and her nieces and nephews. Melynn’s warmth, laughter, and her never-ending smile will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to Sunflower Care Homes in Baldwin City for their compassionate memory care during Melynn’s final months. Donations may be made in her memory to Sunflower Care Homes, 424 Washington Street, Baldwin City, Kansas 67006.
A private family graveside service will be held to honor Melynn’s life.
